Leaving Home

Well, I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but now I have an announcement to make. And while I have been drafting posts about both the Iran Ransom and the Olympics (and how politics and cheating go hand in hand), but the big news I have to give is closer to home.

I am still committed to this blog and the Great Cause of our time, but tomorrow- possibly today for you- on August 17th I will be moving halfway across the country. I don’t make it a secret that while I am a man of the right, I have also been a Californian born and raised. And what’s more, someone that has lived on the dread, died-in-the-wool-left Coast itself. My parents came from the Middle of the country decades ago to live here, and I have lived here in this house my entire life.

Now I am doubling back on the path tread by them, the “Okies”, and the Miner 49ers and moving to Ohio. I have my misgivings about My Grandmother is getting on in years and could use our help, and above all the costs of uprooting from the home of 20~ years and moving halfway across the country to a place I scarcely know are less than the costs of staying. Taxes are high, a criminally insane water policy has all but insured drought will strike again, the “law” tried to abolish concealed carry, and I still remember the times when Bernie’s Brownshirts attacked a Trump Rally down the street while two married Jihadists slaughtered a Christmas Party.

This would be the chance where the jokes about the Far Left Coast would come up. But in all due honesty… I feel they’re mostly out of place for me personally. I am NOT blind to California’s innumerable flaws, chief among them the dual facts that it seems committed to being re-annexed by Mexican drug cartels and the fact that it has helped elect every Leftist president we have been cursed with. But the California I knew was generally good to me on the whole. Even with a hideously corrupt school system and government. The neighborhoods were good, The food’s delicious (especially if you know where to look), the climate’s generally above par (though anybody who thinks it shines all the time has never shivered in 30 degree F weather in the middle of Fall of in Santa Clara). And perhaps most surprisingly… almost everybody I have met- and I mean almost everybody- from school on was friendly or neutral. And hard as it may seem, many people know about my political and philosophical beliefs- including in school- and were accepting of it, sans a few individuals (two or three of whom I am proud to say I helped fire).

So on some level I think a part of me will always belong to here, even long after I leave. It is the land of my childhood and nothing I can do will change that. And I suppose I can see why many people might be drawn in by the warm, fuzzy glow of a Leftist, progressive utopia. After all, my life has largely been a demonstration of its’ better sides (to the extent that oxymoron exists).

But even then the underlying rot crept up from the cracks. That was all too obvious from when one of my (married) math Co-Teachers was arrested and dragged off for shagging a student, probably with the knowledge of the Principal.  Even though his wife also worked on the very campus. But more damning was the bitter, encrusted corruption that lies at the top of the school districts and how my parents had to use their legal skill and positions in the PTA to fight a years long, savage battle with a system run by people who will screw over their students- including the disabled- in order to serve themselves. The fact that I was framed for defusing a situation with a history professor blocking the door and physically threatening me was probably the nadir of it. And I think it mirrors the dozens of ways=- from water infrastructure to sanctuary cities to drugs to forest ires- that this dream fails. How it crumbles when even a handful of people with black hearts, greedy natures, avarice, or simple incompetence get high enough on the food chain, and how no amount of resources, Godly mercy, or well intentioned people are around.

I was just one of the ones lucky or blessed enough to not suffer the full consequences. The brilliant VDH has made a long, long series of posts that show a fuller story. It’s well worth reading, just in case you thought you knew everything about Leftist Lunacy.


So, what next for me? I don’t know. But regardless of what happens I do know I can look forward to one thing. Ohio’s a swing state, and we’re moving in time for voter re-registration for the General Election. Which means for whatever I’ve given up, I will have the chance to do something I really never have done before. Cast a vote in the General Election that might make a non-trivial difference. And ultimately, why else was America founded?

In any event, I look forward to getting back in the swing of things.

nice idea but wasteful

How I spent my summer vacation    My morning’s fun task.

One can’s worth barely covers one side of a pair. Traffic flows o the dry side.

An official, professional line painting machine and plenty of ammo. 6 cans of Rustoleum inverted line paint ($25) is enough for one thin coat of paint on 5 speed bumps.

What a waste. But it fries fast! The best solution is a brush and a gallon of real paint. Sweep it clean, leaf blower away the last bits of dirt. Paint the left or right side of a pair of speed bumps. Put up some traffic cones and give it all day to dry. Come back tomorrow and do the other side.

The gallon of paint does twice as much as the 6 pack of spray cans, and cost $6 less. Oh, and it lasts about 4 times longer too, and covers better. And cleans up with water.

into the wet

Spent the late morning out delivering salt buckets, driving the van around from condo building to condo building. Every bucket half full of calcite, with a clean scoop at the top, and an easy to unscrew waterproof lid.  Because Winter is coming. 209 buckets. Everything here is on the grand scale, just because the condo park is so large. Needless to say, we’ve got a few left over to do tomorrow. And maybe the day after that as well. Now it’s time for lunch and time to play with my kitteh.

longest 2 hours ever

yay, done for the day. And it’s only 4pm. So I  worked on my base tan  painted for 3 hours today, but did it in dribs and drabs. Managed to get in a rest, a trip to the store, lunch, late breakfast, and a couple chats with neighbors and the lawn guys as well. Hey, I’m on my own schedule.

Time for a shower. And then a rest. And then Fall Bowling League starts tonight!!

Maybe A Little Extra In The Mornings

In about 12 hours I should know Yes or No.

I’m trying to get another job.  An additional job I mean. 

Not much of a job, kind of like a Double Pretender. That’s where they pretend to pay you, and you pretend to work, right? Except that this job calls for me to just stand around for a couple hours every morning. Outside. And there’s a little heated shack for when the weather is poorly. Get paid to have my coffee. But even an extra $100 a week is ... another $100 a week. $87 after taxes. Every litter bit helps, right?

Update:  ... and it’s mine. For better money than I expected. Plus there will often be 3-10 hours of extra work available if I want it. Not always, but often.  So maybe this is more like $150/wk.  Fine by me. I start Monday morning.

The Rigid Pro Press

A no-sweat way to hook your pipes up.

No torches, no solder. No wrenches, no twisting. No crocus cloth, and no flux.

5 seconds to attach a valve to a copper pipe. Or a stainless steel pipe. Or PEX. Or that multi-layered stuff. Or the same 5 seconds to butt two pipes together. Or put an elbow one. Whatever. Completely leak proof. There’s a revolution in plumbing going on, and it’s awesome.

Sure, you can go the PEX way. Maybe Shark Bites. And they are neat, I’ll grant you. But this Pro Press thing is just awesome, and it works on the pipes you already have. There’s some kind of O-ring inside the collar on each end of the connectors.  Stub them together, position the battery powered tool, press the trigger. The tool applies several tons of pressure and scrunches things down just the right amount. In 5 seconds you’ve got a joint so strong you can’t pull it apart with a truck. Ho. Lee. Crap.

Maybe it isn’t the latest and greatest. I’m not a plumber. But I saw an impossible to get at dead valve cut out and replaced in about 30 seconds, and there was still some water pressure in the line. Snip snip, pop pop. Done. Dry as a bone. Holy crap.

Friggin Rework

Rats, I knew it was too tight a fit.

I put a bathroom fan in this weekend in a dropped ceiling commercial bathroom. You’d figure that would be easy, dropped ceilings usually having loads of vertical clearance above them. But no. This one has two water lines and a PVC drain line of some kind right over the spot. So it was a tight fit that stretched the wire a bit. Worked fine when I left, but didn’t work when they came in this morning. So I’ve got to go load up the tools and ladder and run down there again, right now.

Crap.

And it’s an annoying fit too; the building is wired with 12ga BX cable, and the fan wires are puny little 22 or 24 gauge. And short leads of course. Kind of tough to get them to stay in a wire nut with that big old 12ga solid core chunk of copper.

So there goes my profit margin. But I’ll eat it, because I don’t do crap work, and this is a regular long term customer.

Oh well. So much for blogging this morning and then going flower shopping.

UPDATE: My nuts were too big. Geex, how often do you hear that? One connection was a little loose, so I trimmed 1/8” off the 12ga wire to even the ends up better with the 24ga stuff, then used a one size smaller wire nut to screw them together more tightly. While I was at it I put a smaller wire nut on the other connection. And lucky me, I found my wire strippers which I had left up in the ceiling. All fixed. I turned the thing on and off 50 times and it worked without a flicker. 10 minute job. Took me more time to put all my tools and the ladder in the old chuggy buggy.

So, on with my day. Breakfast ... now there’s a good idea!

Now Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, has also been confirmed as one of the richest members of the fashion industry, with its annual earnings matching even the most coveted of models.

The Siamese cat, described by the designer as “sophisticated” has earned €3-million (just over $4-million) for just two advertising jobs in the past year: a collaboration with the Japanese cosmetics brand Shu Uemura and posing for a Vauxhall Corsa car calendar.

The figure is not much lower than the reported earnings of Cara Delevingne, supermodel du jour, who was said to have made $4.4-million during 2014 from a series of high-fashion campaigns.

Choupette is known to fans across the globe for its account on the Instagram social media website, which shares photographs of the cat’s luxurious life, and rumours about its two personal maids and publicist.

So not only did the cat earn more last year than you will earn in this entire lifetime plus the next 3 incarnations, the cat did it with just 2 partial days of “work”, which was nothing more than sitting around.

Sure, sure, you want to say “Nah, it’s nonsense, just another April Fool’s Day prank” but you’d only be wrong. 3 million Euros wrong.

Now get back to work, minion. Those Walmart customers aren’t going to greet themselves you know.

Do you sometimes get the odd feeling, that these life forms intentionally bring on the reaction to their anti social behavior, so that they can then scream about ill treatment of muslims.
It’s beyond outrageous that a store like Tesco would be so accommodating. And there’s the problem all in one word. Accommodate. Business does it and the state mostly does also, aided of course by the useful idiots of the left, who are entirely responsible I believe, for the sorry damn state ... the state is in.

Tesco has issued an apology after a Muslim worker refused to sell a customer ham and wine because of Ramadan.

Mother-of-three Julie Cottle went into her local store to stock up, but was left stunned when a checkout employee insisted he couldn’t serve her.

Muslims worldwide are currently fasting for Ramadan - the holy ninth month of the Islamic calendar where devotees abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours.

Ms Cottle was forced to use the self-service checkout in the Tesco Express in Neasden, north-west London, after the worker reportedly ‘walked off’.

She said: ‘He pointed at the ham and wine in my basket and said “I can’t serve you that because I’m fasting”.

‘When I told him he should be serving customers not turning them away he still refused telling me to go to the self-service. I was furious.’

In a statement, a spokesman for Tesco said: ‘We don’t have a specific policy and take a pragmatic approach if a colleague raises concerns about a job they have been asked to do.

‘We apologise to our customer for any inconvenience on this occasion.’

The supermarket giant confirmed ‘the colleague would be spoken to’ but refused to say if any further action would be taken.

the gun is too big for lady cops … authorities ignore them … they sue …. and win

What else could you expect when standards are lowered to comply more with diversity, pol. correctness and the right quotas.

It’s sort of like that post I did a couple weeks ago about the complaints from feminazis about there not being train drivers in that industry. You may recall that bit of stupidity.  So in a push to make every man a king and every woman a queen, and every single body with a god given human right to any kind of job their hearts desire, things must be altered to fit the applicant. And as it turns out here, even with the police, well. Since not every person comes in one size where one size does not fit all ... especially with guns ....

Two ‘petite’ firearms officers are set to receive a pay-out of £70,000 after winning a sex discrimination case over the size of their big guns.

Victoria Wheatley and Rachael Giles said their weapons were too big for their small hands and as a result they could not reach the trigger, a tribunal has heard.

The two women struggled with the grip of the pistols they were using – a Glock 17 – and they also claimed their heads and legs were too small for their protective gear.

The case, held at the Central London Employment Tribunal last week, found the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) guilty of discrimination against both officers in the provision of suitable firearms and safety equipment.

It is understood the officers are set to receive £35,000 each after winning the case against the force – but there is expected to be an appeal.

The decision comes after a number of extraordinary cases where police forces across the country have had to pay out thousands in compensation to officers due to injuries at work -

including £8,000 to a policeman bitten by fleas.

Both females, who were described as being ‘petite in stature’ and with ‘small hands’, asked on several occasions for a smaller and suitable grip on the weapon when they could not reach the trigger, but this did not happen, the tribunal heard.

They also said their trainers failed to adjust their pistols while carrying out a test shoot.

deadly doctor beats the rap. again. on his way to the USA to work there. god is witholding blessings

There are more than you might know, referred to as Dr.Death on this side.  In this particular case and this person, he is it’s reported, heading to the USA.
Not such good news.
I know there are plenty of bad doctors among whites, being incompetent isn’t restricted to any one race or color or nationality.  But there has been an alarming number of foreign born and trained doctors who have caused medial havoc, or in plain English ...  death.  Some who have been allowed to practice do not even speak the language well.

So anyway, what’s new here from my view, is that this doctor will be heading for the USA.

Something tells me his insurance will be sky high, assuming he bothers to get any. Reason I say that is because he has not shown himself to be someone who operates (no pun intended) within the confines of silly things like rules and the law.

A public inquiry found 13 people died as a result of his negligence, but repeated attempts at prosecution failed

Even his colleagues called Jayant Patel “Doctor Death”, and nurses were so alarmed by his conduct that they hid patients from him. But after eight years and three trials which cost A$3.5m (£1.98m), the US surgeon flew out of Australia yesterday convicted only of fraud – and planning to “go back to my work”.

Those words horrified the many Queenslanders who blame alleged surgical blunders by Dr Patel for maiming them or killing their loved ones. A public inquiry investigated 87 deaths to which he was linked, and concluded that 13 people had died as a result of his negligence.

However, repeated attempts to prosecute him failed, and this week the 63-year-old left Brisbane Supreme Court with just a two-year suspended sentence for fraudulently obtaining medical registration and employment. Queensland authorities paid his A$1,400 air fare back to his home state of Oregon.

Concerns were raised about Dr Patel within months of his starting work at Bundaberg Base Hospital, Queensland. The public inquiry heard that he amputated the leg of a diabetic Aboriginal woman, then “forgot about her”. Six days later, she was discovered, semi-comatose and gangrenous.

Dr Patel was also alleged to have carried out heart surgery on a man who was “moaning and screaming” because he was not anaesthetised, and to have operated on a cancer patient despite being told he was too sick for surgery. The patient died on the operating table. Dr Patel failed to detect obvious breast cancers, it was claimed, and repeatedly punctured vital organs during surgery.

Queensland health authorities hired him solely on the basis of a “deceitfully crafted” curriculum vitae. Had they checked his qualifications or references, they would have learnt that his license to practise had been revoked in New York state because of gross negligence, while in Oregon restrictions had been placed on his license. Instead, health officials appointed him director of surgery, and ignored the complaints against him for two years. In 2008, Dr Patel – who had resigned and returned to the US in 2005 – was extradited to Brisbane, where he was found guilty in 2010 of three counts of manslaughter and one of grievous bodily harm.

Two and a half years into a seven-year jail sentence, the verdicts were overturned on appeal, and two retrials failed to secure convictions. Last week, to the dismay of the surgeon’s alleged victims and their relatives, the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Tony Moynihan QC, dropped all but the fraud charges, to which Dr Patel pleaded guilty.

“It’s all over, and what a farce it’s been,” said Beryl Crosby, president of the Bundaberg Hospital Patients Support Group. “There was no justice at the end of it all.” Ms Crosby, who said she had promised patients on their deathbeds that she would fight until the end, described the withdrawal of the remaining manslaughter and grievous bodily harm charges as “devastating”.

The main obstacle for prosecutors was the conflicting medical evidence which led to deadlocked juries and the successful appeal. However, Terry Martin, the judge in the final case, told Dr Patel that he had “put the health and welfare of patients at risk”, and showed “no … genuine remorse”.

Dr Patel portrayed himself as the victim of a miscarriage of justice, saying that the legal saga had been “a long and very difficult journey”. Despite his bold pledge to return to work, it is doubtful that he will ever be employed again as a surgeon. Legal fees have reportedly left him broke.

Toni Hoffman, a senior nurse who “blew the whistle” on Dr Patel, said he appeared still not to “understand or accept the gravity of what’s happened”.

She said one man died of internal bleeding after the surgeon stabbed him 50 times with a large needle in an effort to drain fluid from a sac around his heart.

“We were seeing these patients dying every day and we couldn’t do anything.”

Abiola Olukemi Apara ….. WTF?  is that a name or a new disease?

Good grief .... is this another sign of National Health or a one off thing?

Abiola Olukemi Apara ?????  Huh? What kinda name is that or is it a disease we need to know about. Sheesh. Gone are the times foreigners with impossible names had the courtesy to Anglicize their names as our grandparents did. And nobody forced them to do it, they just had more brains and consideration for their host country and wanted to fit in.  No such animal as automatic rights.

Sorry but nobody with a name like that should should be hired prior to changing it to Jones or Smith. 
I wonder what her English is like.

A nurse at an under-fire hospital has been accused of using an NHS staff member like her own personal servant - forcing them to drive her to IKEA and fix her leaking tap.

Abiola Olukemi Apara is accused of forcing a colleague at Basildon Hospital in Essex to mow her lawn, drive her to IKEA for a shopping trip, take her car for an MoT and even install a washing machine at her home.

The clinical support worker was also allegedly asked to install new lights, fix a leaking tap and put sealant around a bath at Apara’s home during a period between September 2004 and January 2007.

On Christmas Day 2005, Apara is even alleged to have instructed the same colleague to call in sick for his afternoon shift at the hospital so he could drive her to London and back.

The guy must be a wimp or an illegal or both.
I can’t imagine one of us, that is a white or black Brit or American, would put up with that treatment.  Assuming it’s all true.
Just defies logic someone would allow it.

A handful of other charges include inappropriately ignoring colleagues for a number of weeks and shouting at staff.

In one instance, believed to have occurred around July 2005, Apara is accused of ignoring a ward sister for five weeks and only communicating with her through notes left in the staff room.

On another occasion in late 2005, Apara is accused of shouting words to the effect of ‘you office now’ at a ward hostess then ignoring her for more than four months after the incident.

In another instance in March 2004 she is accused of ‘inappropriately asking a staff nurse, to provide a reference for her daughter, whom she had never met and did not know.

She is also accused of shouting at the same staff member in front of a patient she was washing

The misconduct charges are set to be heard when Apara appears in front of a Nursing and Midwifery Council panel in London next month.

Apara has since left Basildon Hospital.

The hospital has made national headlines after being slammed by inspectors for persistently high death rates and has since been paired with London’s Royal Free Hospital in a bid to improve standards.

I do know this and not saying that the ppl I personally spoke to (tried to that is) were bad folks. They tried to be helpful but every so often I had a hard time making out what they were trying to say. Wasn’t so bad that in the end I was lost.  I did finally understand. But it made me miss home and the desert all the more.

Good grief .... have to see to a leaky roof. Oh great. Got numbers and called and get no phone back. Hard to find someone who isn;t a traveller repair which means ur screwed. Sorry, off topic.

Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
